Poincenot Hotel is strategically located on the main street of the town and at only a few meters away from the main trekking circuits. The broad practice of trekking contributed to El Chaltén being named “Trekking Capital of Argentina”.
El Chaltén is in the Patagonian Department of Lake Argentino, at the riverside of De las Vueltas and Fitz Roy rivers, within the Los Glaciares National Park, in the province of Santa Cruz.
It can be reached by air, flying to the city of El Calafate, which is located only 220 kms away from El Chaltén, and accessible through a completely paved road. El Calafate has regular bus services to El Chaltén. For those traveling by car, El Chaltén can be reached by Provincial Roads Number 5, 11 and 23, or from the North, by National Road Number 40.
This small town is at the base of the famous Mount Fitz Roy, which is visited by risk taking climbers from all over the world. It forms part of a Glacier Reservation where the Perito Moreno is the most famous one. It is surrounded by forests, mountains and native vegetal species.
